The "Reading Rock Cafe" takes place Friday during lunch time in the library. Students are invited to bring their lunch and enjoy the show. My vision was to encourage use of the library for various activities and to create an avenue for students interested in reading aloud poetry, performing music, mime, comedy, skits, debates, etc. Our first performance was on November 3, 2000 with two students playing drums and guitar. 70 students showed up along with 6 staff members. Since then we have had poetry readings, local rock/alternative bands and fiddler players performing with up to 150 students and 21 staff members attending. With a student population of 450 and staff at 50, that's a pretty good turn out! My "vision" is now a reality and one more way to encourage students to enjoy the library!! Contact Julie Davis for more information. |
