New
Maintenance and Transportation Center
It was a long time coming, but move in day for the
new Maintenance and Transportation Center finally arrived August 12, 2002.

The center began its life --on paper at least-- long
ago, with the approval in 1998 of a bond to build a new transportation
and maintenance facility. That bond was placed on hold while the district
established a transportation cooperative among the White Salmon, Glenwood,
Klickitat, and Trout Lake School Districts and Educational Service District
112 in Vancouver, Washington. That cooperative allowed the district to
seek state matching funds for the construction. When the project is fully
complete, state matching money is expected to total between $700,000 and
$800,000, which can be used for other capital projects within the district.
The new building sits across the parking lot from
Henkle Middle School, adjacent to the Preschool/Head Start building. It
will house the district's transportation and maintenance departments,
and provide shelter in its parking bays for the district's school buses.
