credit) for all students. Make sure all students understand what
constitutes plagiarism and how to avoid it.

First
documented offense = loss of credit on assignment
Second
documented offense = loss of credit for the course
|
First offense: To be undertaken
by teachers with students caught plagiarizing the first time.
3. Document the plagiarism:
Make and keep on file copies of student work and copies of source
material
4. Notify student of
plagiarism, and discuss penalty (i.e., loss of credit for assignment)
Reteach/reinforce concept of
plagiarism and ways to avoid it.
5. Fill out disciplinary
referral and submit to office.
6. Notify parent, in
writing, of the plagiarism, penalty, and possible penalty for
another occurrence (i.e., loss of credit in course)
7. Make other teachers
aware of student plagiarist in faculty meeting.
Second Offense: To be undertaken
by teachers with students caught plagiarizing a second time.

for course)
9. Student is to be removed
from class in which double-plagiarism occurred for the rest of
the term, and if possible reassigned a course at the Columbia

as any other challenge over a student's removal from class.
