Use the list of questions below to identify any special needs you'll have when creating your list of works cited. Ask yourself if each situation exists in your current project. If so, use the information that follows each question to see what you need to do.

Author issues

Do you have more than one resource by the same author(s)?
List each resource separately, just as you usually would, except replace the author's name on the second (and third, and so on) resource with three dashes and a period.

Instead of:

Jones, Bill. The Life of William of Normandy. New York: Harper Row, 1997.

Jones, Bill. 1066: The Year that Changed the World. New York: MacMillan, 1994.

do the following:

Jones, Bill. The Life of William of Normandy. New York: Harper Row, 1997.

---. 1066: The Year that Changed the World. New York: MacMillan, 1994.

This formatting change brings to the surface the fact that you've chosen to use multiple sources from the same author, which may or may not be seen as a strength of your research.
