Project Open Door

Project Open Door was originally funded through a 21st Century Community Learning Center grant in 1998 for three years.  The 2005/2006 school year will be the 7th year for Project Open Door.  Local funding, small grants and private donations now keep the "doors open" at Henkle after school and during the summer.

Henkle Middle School PTO and Mount Adams Transportation provide transportation home for students who live in White Salmon, Bingen and Pucker Huddle. The Program is FREE of charge, with nominal fees for field trips and some special events.

It provides:

  • Opportunities for success and positive growth through academic tutoring and projects as well as access to technology and computers.
  • Diverse enrichment opportunities in art, culture, technology, leadership, interpersonal skills and recreation.
  • Activities that strengthen connections to our community.
  • Safe, supervised, drug-free activities for kids during non-school hours
